HHS awards bonuses to states for boosting children's health coverage

HHS awards bonuses to states for boosting children's health coverage
December 17, 2009

The Department of Health and Human Services today awarded more than $72 million to nine states for their progress in enrolling and retaining eligible children in Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program. The states are Alaska, Alabama, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington. Funding for the "performance bonuses" was included in the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act for states that adopt certain program features known to encourage enrollment and retention of eligible children, and document significant increases in Medicaid enrollment among children.
