CDC: States to receive ARRA funding for HAI

CDC: States to receive ARRA funding for HAI
September 01, 2009

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to distribute $40 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to state health departments for efforts to prevent healthcare-associated infections. According to the CDC, the funds will be used to implement recommendations in the Department of Health and Human Services' HAI Action Plan; increase use of the CDC's surveillance system for HAI data; hire and train public health staff for HAI prevention efforts; and complement HAI investments from other HHS agencies. Prevention efforts will target HHS priority areas, including bloodstream infections, surgical site infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections, as well as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium difficile.
