CMS: Hospitals not paid under OPPS can report on quality measures
September 15, 2008

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has decided to allow critical access hospitals, Maryland hospitals, and other hospitals not paid under the outpatient prospective payment system to voluntarily report outpatient quality measures for patient encounters beginning Jan. 1. CMS expects to announce details on the decision this month and to release a participation form in November which the hospitals will need to submit. AHA has urged CMS to allow critical access hospitals to submit outpatient quality data.
