CDC issues recommendations to prevent infection in certain disasters

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week issued recommendations for using immunizations and other measures to protect people wounded during bombings and other mass casualty events from exposure to tetanus and blood-borne infections. In certain cases, the recommendations differ from standard published recommendations, because the ability to assess medical histories and biologics might be limited in situations involving a substantial number of casualties, the authors note.
