The Premier Inc. group purchasing organization recently endorsed the GS1 supply chain standards, saying it will require them in its contracts with medical device makers. “This is a huge step forward for the health care community,” said Dennis Harrison, president of GS1 Healthcare US, a group promoting adoption of the standards. “As a GPO, Premier’s announcement will have far-reaching effects in driving the implementation of GS1 standards across the health care supply chain.” The standards, supported by AHA, are used to identify and track medical devices.
