The Department of Health and Human Services this week awarded 10 organizations $1 million each to help communities reduce obesity and tobacco use. The grants are part of Communities Putting Prevention to Work, an HHS initiative funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The recipients will provide guidance to community leaders, help sustain prevention efforts when Recovery Act funding ends, and implement prevention policies across their networks and systems. The organizations are: the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Association of American Indian Physicians, BlazeSports America, Community Food Security Coalition, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Educational Fund, National Recreation and Parks Association, Sesame Workshop, and Society for Public Health Education.
