Programs honored for innovation in palliative, end-of-life care
July 06, 2009

Three programs that expand the reach of palliative and end-of-life care will receive 2009 Circle of Life awards during a July 24 ceremony in San Francisco. The recipients are the Four Seasons program in Flat Rock, NC; Palliative Medicine and Comfort Care Team at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland; and Wishard Health Services in Indianapolis. In addition, citations of honor will go to Gilchrist Hospice Care and Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, MD; and St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital in Oxnard and Camarillo, CA. "As our nation looks to true health reform, end-of-life and palliative care will be important components and these honorees are truly inspirational and help serve as models," said AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock. For more on the awards, to be presented during the AHA and Health Forum Leadership Summit, see the AHA news release.
