A draft set of model anti-fraud requirements for electronic health records, developed as part of an ongoing effort under contract from the Office of the National Coordinator, has been posted for public comment through Jan. 22. The requirements, which will be submitted to the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology as potential EHR anti-fraud certification criteria, are based on guiding principles set forth in an earlier phase of the ONC project contract. During that phase, a group of stakeholders that included the AHA worked to identify general principles to strengthen the fraud management capability of a nationwide interoperable HIT infrastructure. The AHA is strongly encouraging members of the hospital community to weigh in on the draft requirements, saying “feedback from the hospital field will be critical to ensuring the [requirements] are consistent with patient care objectives and truly workable for caregivers as they deliver care to their patients and the community.”
