HHS will not delay final rules for ICD-10, electronic transactions
March 06, 2009

The Department of Health and Human Services will not delay or reopen for comment its final rules implementing the ICD-10 code sets and updated standards for reporting health care diagnoses and procedures in electronic health care transactions, the agency said yesterday. The AHA-backed rules officially adopt the new codes sets and standards effective March 17, but hospitals and other affected entities have until Oct. 1, 2013 to fully implement them. On Jan. 20, the new administration issued a memorandum asking federal agencies to review pending rules and consider whether to delay and reopen them for comment.
