The Department of Health and Human Services has activated the National Disaster Medical System and Public Health Service Commissioned Corps to send medical personnel to Haiti in the wake of the recent earthquake. More than 250 people are deploying and as many as 12,000 could assist in the coming days, HHS said. The medical teams include doctors, nurses, paramedics and others from Georgia, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Florida. "These experts will provide medical care to the injured and will support the public health response on the ground," said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
