Haitian earthquake prompts hospital offers to help

Haitian earthquake prompts hospital offers to help
January 14, 2010

The White House is asking hospitals that wish to make donations to the Haitian earthquake relief effort to register online. The U.S. Agency for International Development is coordinating the provision of resources with the State Department based on Haitian needs. "We have all watched with great sorrow the devastation wrought by the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti," said AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock. "Many of you have contacted the AHA to ask how you can help. Instead of launching a separate relief effort, I would like to encourage hospitals to consider donating via the U.S. Agency for International Development or another well-established, private-sector relief organization." He added, "The compassion and generosity of America's hospitals continue to humble and inspire. Thank you for the work you do every day … for your patients, your communities and your neighbors in great times of need." For more on the USAID's response to the disaster, visit www.usaid.gov. Inquiries related to donations should be e-mailed to cip@hhs.gov.
