AHA SAG member named NAACP chair
March 08, 2010

The NAACP recently named as chair of its board of directors Roslyn Brock, director of advocacy and public policy for Bon Secours Health System in Marriottsville, MD. Brock is a member of the AHA's Special Advisory Group on Improving Hospital Care for Minorities.

Prior to working at Bon Secours, she worked 10 years in health programs at the W. K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, MI.

AHA Executive Vice President Rick Pollack said Brock "is committed to ensuring equitable treatment for all patients and will continue to offer a strong voice in the effort to eliminate disparities within the health care system."

The AHA's Special Advisory Group on Improving Hospital Care for Minorities includes national leaders representing civil rights organizations, hospitals, public health agencies, state and federal government, academic medicine, health care researchers and others. The group examines and provides guidance on how hospitals can help eliminate disparities in care.

Brock was elected NAACP chair Feb. 20 by the organization's 64-person board of directors to succeed Julian Bond, who has been at the helm for the past 10 years. She has been vice chairman of the NAACP since 2001 and a member for more than 25 years.
