The American Society for Healthcare Engineering today joined with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to launch a two-year campaign to educate hospitals about the environmental and financial benefits of pursuing energy efficiency improvements. The ASHE Energy Efficiency Commitment (E2C) campaign supports the goals of the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Challenge, which encourages U.S. building owners to reduce their energy consumption by 10% or more. As a participant in the challenge, ASHE will identify hospitals with successful energy programs and develop case studies of their energy management methods; produce an “Energy Efficiency” section at www.ashe.org; develop a chapter-focused Energy Program; and recognize members for energy efficiency improvements using the EPA’s national energy performance rating system. ASHE, an AHA personal membership group, is holding its 43rd annual conference July 9-12 in Boston.
