AHA launches new online hub for health care workforce resources   08/08/2012
The AHA today launched the AHA Workforce Center, www.healthcareworkforce.org, a new online hub to help members of the association and its affiliates sustain, grow and enhance the health care workforce. A collaborative effort of the AHA's American Organization of Nurse Executives, American Society of Healthcare Human Resources Administration and other affiliates, the Center brings together resources and tools to support workforce recruitment, engagement, retention, succession planning, diversity, culture and models for the future.
Health system honored for helping employers reduce health disparities    08/08/2012
The Department of Health and Human Services, White House Business Council and National Business Group on Health yesterday honored eight employers for their commitment to reducing health care disparities, including Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System in Baton Rouge, LA. The health system's Healthy Lives program provides wellness programming and services to employers in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. "We applaud each of these forward-thinking organizations for their commitment and ongoing efforts to address and lower health care disparities," U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin, M.D., said at a Health Disparities Roundtable featuring the honorees. "They are among a select group of organizations who understand that reducing health disparities in the workplace will lead to improved health, productivity and quality of life of their employees and families. It is our hope that employers all around the country will follow their lead." Benjamin presented Stephanie Mills, M.D., president and CEO of Franciscan Health & Wellness Services, with an award and plaque for the health system.
