NY delegation objects to proposed inpatient payment adjustment   07/16/2012
New York's entire delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives last week urged President Obama to remove from Medicare's inpatient prospective payment system proposed rule for fiscal year 2013 payment reductions that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services claims would eliminate the effect of documentation and coding changes. "We are disappointed that CMS continues to compare hospital documentation and coding in the substantially improved Medicare Severity Diagnosis-Related Group (MS-DRG) system to that which existed under the DRG system in FY 2007, and that the agency has proposed an additional 0.8% coding cut going forward," the delegation said in a bipartisan letter to the president. "At a time when hospitals are already straining to reconcile payments with the cost of the care they provide to Medicare patients, further payment reductions to New York's hospitals and health systems will put patient care in jeopardy." In comments submitted to CMS last month, AHA called the proposed payment adjustment "highly inappropriate."
