CCHIT to end EHR certification services   01/29/2014
The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology today announced it will no longer offer certification programs for electronic health record technology, including testing and certification services for the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the National Coordinator. The organization said customers have been notified, and advised to accept an offer from another ONC-authorized certification body and accredited test laboratory to maintain their certification or apply for new testing services. "It's apparent to both providers and vendors that the pace of ONC 2014 Edition certification has been slowed by the challenges of more rigorous criteria and testing, and the timing and nature of future federal health IT program requirements remain uncertain," said CCHIT Executive Director Alisa Ray. CCHIT has been certifying EHR technology since 2006 and became an ONC-authorized certification body in 2012. According to ONC’s Certified Health IT Product List, CCHIT has certified 203 of the 353 complete or modular inpatient EHRs to date for the 2014 Edition certification.
