EBRI: High-deductible health plans continue to grow

December 19, 2013

The percentage of insured individuals enrolled in high-deductible health plans grew to 18% in 2013 from 16% in 2012, according to a new report from the Employee Benefit Research Institute. At the same time, enrollment in consumer-driven health plans grew only slightly to 9.7% from 9.6%. According to the survey, adults enrolled in consumer-driven or high-deductible plans were more likely than those in traditional plans to “exhibit a number of cost-conscious behaviors,” such as asking for a generic rather than a name brand drug, checking the price of a treatment before receiving care and talking with their physicians about alternative treatment options. For more, see the report.
