To attest to meaningful use of electronic health records for fiscal year 2013, hospitals participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program must complete their performance period by Sept. 30 and their attestation by Nov. 30. Hospitals must report on meaningful use measures each fiscal year. For hospitals reporting on their first year of participation, the performance period is 90 days; hospitals in their second or third year of participation report on a full fiscal year. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has advised that if a hospital experiences an issue with the registration and attestation system, the hospital must contact the EHR Information Center and get a “Remedy Ticket” number that can be used to track their problem. Hospitals also should document the system issue through screen shots to support any subsequent inquiry. CMS has indicated to AHA staff that the agency will allow for later attestation if the system issues extend beyond the Nov. 30 deadline and the hospital has a documented Remedy Ticket. Contact the EHR Information Center at 1-888-734-6433 or TTY number: 1-888-734-6563. The EHR Information Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Central Time, except federal holidays. However, given this week’s deadline, the Center also will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time on Saturday, Nov. 30.
