ASHRM issues guidance on defining, measuring safety events

October 9, 2012

The American Society for Healthcare Risk Management yesterday issued the first in a series of white papers offering guidance on defining and measuring serious safety events for prevention purposes. The paper recommends a common definition for serious safety events, and techniques for investigating events and determining the effectiveness of prevention methods. The papers are part of ASHRM's Getting to Zero patient safety initiative. ASHRM is an AHA personal membership group representing clinical care, insurance, law and other related professions.
