Louisiana hospital challenge aims to help residents lose 200 tons

October 2, 2013

The Louisiana Hospital Association yesterday launched the Geaux Lite Louisiana Statewide Hospital Weight Loss Challenge, a six-month competition in which hospital employees will team with family members, friends and community partners to lose weight and get healthy. The goal is to lose 200 tons (400,000 pounds) statewide by April 2014. Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently ranked Louisiana the most obese state in the nation, with nearly 35% of adult residents obese. “Obesity is a factor in so many health problems,” said Stephen Wright, president and CEO of CHRISTUS Health Louisiana and chair of the LHA Board of Trustees. “We can make such an impact on our communities by addressing this one issue.”
