FCC to host call on new programs to support rural health IT

January 24, 2013

The Federal Communications Commission and the Health Resources and Services Administration will hold a Jan. 30 conference call on funding available through the Healthcare Connect Fund and Skilled Nursing Facility Pilot Program, established last month to help rural providers improve broadband capacity and leverage the full potential of electronic health records and other health information technology. Both initiatives are part of the FCC Rural Health Care Program. The Healthcare Connect Fund will replace the FCC's Internet Access and Rural Health Care Pilot Programs. The FCC expects to begin the competitive bidding process for new applicants this summer. The new SNF Pilot Program will help SNFs optimize patient care through broadband-enabled health care applications and begins in 2014. To access the call, from 2-3 p.m. Eastern Time, dial 888-946-7491, passcode 2141709. HRSA will post presentation slides before the call and a recording and transcript after the call at www.hrsa.gov/ruralhealth. For more on the FCC Rural Health Care Program, visit www.aha.org.
