The AHA presented its Circle of Life and Dick Davidson Quality Milestone awards and the AHA-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize at the 2012 Health Forum and AHA Leadership Summit, held July 19-21 in San Francisco.
Circle of Life. Akron (OH) Children’s Hospital (Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center); Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, NY; and Sharp HealthCare in San Diego received Circle of Life Awards for their efforts to expand the reach of palliative and end-of-life care.
In addition, citations of honor went to: Community PedsCare of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville; St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, CA; and Unity in De Pere, WI.
Dick Davidson Quality Milestone Award for Allied Association Leadership. The Michigan Health & Hospital Association and South Carolina Hospital Association received the Dick Davidson Quality Milestone Award for their work in improving hospital quality. The annual award is named for AHA President Emeritus Dick Davidson, who strongly promoted the role of hospital associations in leading quality improvement during his tenure as AHA president and as president of the Maryland Hospital Association.
AHA-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize. University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland received the AHA-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize, which recognizes leadership and innovation in quality improvement and safety. University Hospitals Case Medical Center was cited for its efforts to achieve the Institute of Medicine’s six quality aims for safe, effective, efficient, timely, patient-centered and equitable health care. Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx, NY, and University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC, were recognized as Quest for Quality Prize finalists, and Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI, received a Citation of Merit.
